About the Producers

The Gachata factory is operated by the Gachata Farmers Cooperative which is comprised of about 900 active members. It sits on 391 acres between the villages of Muthuaini, Thiriku, Gachenge, and Kianjau. Each farmer-member has about 300 trees on about a hectare of land and they grow other crops as well as coffee. The area around Gachata is densely populated so the cooperative takes special precautions with waste products and pollutants, as well taking care to preserve indigenous plant life in the area, protecting local bird and animal species.

What makes this coffee stand out

The location of where this coffee is grown creates a dynamic and delicious cup. Nyeri sits between Mt. Kenya and the Aberadare Mountains — where high elevation and rich soil create a perfect climate for coffee production. Kenya’s coffee production historically thrives in this region. The region is rich with bamboo, rainforests, eucalyptus, and wildlife. This region is also home to the Kikuyu people who have lived between the mountains for centuries. This coffee showcases all the varities that grow in Kenya, such as Batian, SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11.
