About the Chirinos cooperative
The Chirinos cooperative, founded in 1968 by 36 farmers in Peru’s northwest, has grown into a leader in sustainable, organic coffee production. Despite challenges in the 1990s, the group’s resilience and focus on sustainable farming helped them thrive. Today, Chirinos is celebrated for its delicious coffee, innovative practices like the “gaicashi” composting system, and dedication to organic farming methods that prioritize quality and environmental health.
