What makes this coffee stand out

At Driftaway, it is important to us to work with exporters who invest in the communities they buy coffee from. Smallholder and women coffee producers do not always have as much support and resources as larger estate producers. Grupo Tap and Kayon Mountain’s support of their communities speaks volumes about their dedication and commitment to the communities they work with. From fundraising for aid to supporting local education and care, these exporters do so much incredible work for their communities.

The coffee varietal Colombia can be traced back to the early 18th century, where it was first cultivated in Colombia and thrived in the ideal microclimates of the Andes mountains. This clean and sweet varietal is best known for its well-rounded profile. The Castillo varietal is a much more recent development, as it was cultivated in the early 2000s as a more disease-resistant and high-yielding varietal as compared to Typica and Bourbon heirlooms. These characteristics have made it a cornerstone of the industry's sustainability, fundamentally shaping modern Colombian coffee landscapes. Both varietals can be found in abundance amongst Colombia’s coffee-producing regions.

Ethiopia's landrace coffee varietals are a priceless genetic treasure, cultivated for centuries. This wild diversity, often labeled simply as "heirloom," yields an unparalleled spectrum of complex flavors, from delicate bergamot and jasmine to deep, wine-like berry notes.
